When slang goes to far
Ok so I live on campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Which means that I receive unsolicited flyer’s all the time. With this being my third year here at UAF I have gotten to the point where I just throw most of them out. However, I recently received one for a party so I took a look at the flier before I chucked it, and the title caught my eye “Pimps and hoes party 2007” upon seeing this my conservative juices boiled. The two words that really catch my eye in this title are of course pimps, and hoes. Now I realize that do to todays slang the meaning of these words has changed, however as far as I know the real meaning for these words are still incredibly offensive, and not exactly proper for public use. Now I am saying that their should be word police on the prowl, no. However perhaps our young still in primary school should be taught more tact in using slang. That being said slang is a great thing it is like an extension for a piece for software. It allows the language to evolve, and it also allows for free expression in language. However, some slang should remain verbal only, and never be used for public print of any kind.
