Spring 2007 Students

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Ayumin is a new Spring 2007 student out of Nunapitchuk. This spring she had begin working on her Associates of Arts Degree and also wants to major in English or Social Working. Ayumin has chosen KuC because it’s close to her home and she likes the people who work here.

Kevin was raised in San Diego and came back to Alaska to change his life by going to college here in Bethel. To start,
he has graduated with his GED last year. This Spring he was a little nervous about going to college because it was his first year but he likes it here so far. He is also working towards his Associates of Arts Degree.

Renee from Chefornek came to Bethel this Spring to start college here in Bethel. She is full-blooded Yup’ik Eskimo who likes to do fun activities with friends and family and she had also attended college at UAF but had transferred to KuC to finish her requirements in order to recieve her Associates. She is interested in getting into Environmental Science, teaching or business afternwords. ” If you want some things in life you have to always do your best no matter what, that is why I’ve decided to further my education and attend college.”

George, another Spring student here at the Kuskokwim Campus, comes from Tununak, which is on the Nelson Island just right on the coast of the Bering Sea. The reason why he chose KuC is because it is closer to home. Right now he hasn’t decided what he wants to major in, but he is working towards his Associates of Arts degree.
Gracie has lived in almost every corner of Alaska, she doesn’t really have a home-town but right now she has resided in Bethel while she attends college here in Bethel. She loves to learn about Alaskan people including where they come from, their languages and to compare how similar Alaskans are. After graduating from high school in Sitka she went to Alaska Job Corps. Training Program to obtain her CNA license. She transferred from UAA this Spring to attend the two year Nursing Program here at KuC. “So far Bethel has been very nice and I think I’m going to like it here.”

Summer Science Delayed

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Due to a mean winter, that doesn’t want to give up, Summer Science Camp had to be delayed 1 week. The last report from the island is there is still tons of sea ice and a good bit of snow on Nunivak Island.

The plan is to now have students arrive at KuC June 16th, leave for Nunivak the 19th. Come back to KuC July 7th and students finish on the 10th.

Talent Search and the Bridging (Boot Camp) Programs are still on schedule, so keep an eye on them as they start next week.
