Were Back!

Back to Nash at last!!! Well… I guess I’m being a bit dramatic. It was really kind of fun, aside from the freeze dried food and wet feet… it was an awesome adventure, and I’m glad I did it. I, Peri Sanders… have hiked 16 miles of rugged, up-hill, soaking wet…TUNDRA, with 50 pounds of backpack on my back! There I go being dramatic again. Now, I will tell you the whole and full (summary) of our great, adventorous hike to Cape Mohican! We all started out in a boat as we made our way to Mikisagimiut (summer camp)where we would start our hike . Energetic and ready for anything and everything… we stepped out of the boat and set up our camp. As night grew closer, we all grew more and more excited for our trip ahead. The next morning, we were off! The weather wasn’t cooperating with us on the hike there, it was like walking through a endless cloud. I could only see a couple feet in front of me, but what I could see was beautiful. It was like seeing untouched land that our feet were walking across. Time passed as foot steps dissappeared behind us. We had made it. Exhausted and ready for food, we all eagerly opened our Mountain House (freeze dried) food packs. I’ll tell you this, those things are really delicious… if you’re starving. After we all filled up and re-energized, we all and went off and did our different things. Some went to sleep, and some went to explore the new land. I went to explore… being the true Sherlock that I am. I saw some new birds, and a lot of muskox. Everyone went to sleep to prepare for the hike back. The next morning, I woke up… DRY! At last! We all had our fill on oatmeal and were on our way to explore the rest of the island we had not yet seen. We went to the very tip of the cape and saw a lot of birds! Then… the sun came out! We were all on our way back and the weather was coorperating! But the muskox wern’t. The whole time the weather was great… but we were untentionally herding muskox. We were following them everywhere we went… in fear that they would turn around and hurt us terribly. But that didn’t happen. We made it back to the camping site and fell into our sleeping bags. As the sun rose… so did we. We chose different ways of getting back to our beloved Nash Harbor… some hiked and some took a boat. We all arrived at different times… with the same things in our head, food and a steam bath. And we all did just that. The whole trip was AWESOME.
