Summer Science Delayed
Due to a mean winter, that doesn’t want to give up, Summer Science Camp had to be delayed 1 week. The last report from the island is there is still tons of sea ice and a good bit of snow on Nunivak Island.
The plan is to now have students arrive at KuC June 16th, leave for Nunivak the 19th. Come back to KuC July 7th and students finish on the 10th.
Talent Search and the Bridging (Boot Camp) Programs are still on schedule, so keep an eye on them as they start next week.

I have a request from someone in Hawai’i to link summer students in learning plants, especially the euphorbs.
Please let me know of any interest.

Aloha,
Mahalo for your reply. I just received this, a bit late.
I understand that several plants in Hawaii found their way here from Alaska and other boreal regions. Such plants are in the genera of Viola, and the grasses of Deschampsia, Festuca and Trisetum.
Birds brought these plants, and they too are of interest, their names and stories linked to them. (Such as the Golden Plover, named Kolea in Hawaiian.)
Are there members of the family Urticaceae in Alasa?
I have no more time to write just now, but look forward to hearing from you.
Aloha,
Catherine
