Definition
Participants can participate without revealing identity to their classmates and other members of the learning community.
Discussion
All educators know that anonymous participation has marked advantages and disadvantages. In this case we are generally assuming that the instructor knows the identity of participants offerings, mitigating some of the latter concerns. This does not have to be the case, however, as in small group composition using a wiki that doesn’t enforce use of identifiable usernames.
This can be much more difficult than expected if the class includes any face-to-face meetings or is small enough that it becomes relatively easy to deduce (or guess) identities.
