This activity is applicable to many different disciplines
Aim/Purpose:
- Check the student’s understanding of the content covered in a limited time period
- Encourage collaboration among students in each breakout room
- Use this game so that students can learn in a “fun” way!
Design:
Before the session:
Step 1: The moderator prepares the questions
Step 2: The moderator provides group work instructions in the Student Guide & course code of conduct and emails or includes it as a document in Blackboard to the participants before the session.
Step 3: The moderator creates breakout rooms, copies the slide that shows the questions in the whiteboard to each of their whiteboard slides (Effective Use of the Whiteboard)
In the session:
Step 1: Participants are given a set time and are put in small groups. The moderator assigns a “student moderator” in each breakout room to control the discussion and make sure to settle any disagreements within the group and to make all students follow the course of conduct at all times
The moderator moves from room to room to assist as necessary and to ensure that students are on track
Step 2: The “student moderator” discuss each question from the list with the group, gets answers as quickly as possible and once all the questions have been answered, he/she sends a private message to the moderator (Effective use of Direct Messaging). Once this is done, the students cannot make changes to their answers. The group that finishes most quickly and gets most correct answers, wins the game and gets extra credits!
Step 3: Once time is up, all students are moved to the main room, and the results of the competition are shown and questions are explained.
