1. Overview of Application Sharing
Application Sharing is a feature in Elive! that allows an attendee to share any application, a specific region on the desktop or the entire desktop with the other attendees.
- Both the moderator and the participant can use this feature
- The host of the Application Sharing can give control to another attendee of his shared application(s) or region(s).
2. How to use Application Sharing?
Click on the “Open Hand” in the Tool Bar or Go to Tools → Application Sharing → Host Applications. Just remember that this feature requires a higher bandwidth and some problems might arise when using the Application Sharing, hence close it and open it again, it might work!
When sharing one application or more, click the Applications tab.
Make sure that the applications are open on your desktop. Choose the application(s) you want to share.
When sharing a region, click the Region tab. Then you have a choice of either selecting a region in your desktop or Application Share your entire desktop.
More information can be found on the elluminate webiste, check: Quick Reference Guide for Moderators and Moderator’s Guide pages 161 to 182.
In addition, you can listen to an introductory recording found on the elluminate website: Recording
3. How to use Application Sharing effectively?
- Hands-on training/demonstration: During the first session or during training, sharing the entire Elive! interface Application would be a great idea to “show” the features of ELive! and give instructions on “how to” use the features. (You can also use “Snap Image” in the Whiteboard tools)
- If your course Syllabus and information is on Blackboard or another asynchronous tool, then during the first class, you can Application Share the Blackboard and go over the Syllabus, the discussion board tool, the students’ homepages and other features with your students.
- Since loading a presentation on the whiteboard makes your slides static, Application Share your presentation would be an option if you want to include any transitions or animations.
- Web page navigation, similar to Web Tour. But with Application Sharing, students can follow you to websites that require your personal information, unlike in the Web Tour feature.
- Application Share the quick Polling results and share them with the other attendees. (You can also use “Snap Image” in the Whiteboard tools)
- You can application share a Timer when students are doing an assignment, or taking a quiz. One of the timers can be found in www.horton.com: the Horton Timer!
- If a participant has a corrupted file or a problem running a specific program, the moderator or a technician can take control of the participant’s desktop and solve the problem.
- Small groups can work collaboratively using this feature and application sharing is often available in the breakout rooms.
- Instructors might use this feature for office hours to assist students in working on homework that requires software or to demonstrate how to use a feature of Blackboard that they are having trouble with.
