  • 55 courses have added Webmeeting (Elluminate). Faculty are learning how to use it and solving problems as they arise.

  • Having difficulty engaging/generating interest among instructors to teach distance classes.

  • Bandwidth issue as well - groups getting bumped from connections
  • Having each village faculty member representative adopt the responsibility to listening to interest for classes

Ketchikan (Cathy)

  • Early adoter faculty looking for addition support for new things they want to try. New interest in teaching by distance and looking at distance delivered classes to improve numbers
  • Providing resources to instructors to deliver quality distance courses

TVC (Steve)

  • Some programs have the intention to be delivered online. The intention and reality are different, and are currently working on this step-by-step.
  • The issue of sharing courses seems to be confusing

UAF - Cooperative Extension (Bill)

  • Working with workshops and faculty are used to doing these by distance. Trying to get more interest in delivering by distance (there is a need for adopting distance technologies or getting some training for faculty).
  • How can extention be the first point of contact for the public to the UA system?

UAA (Kate)

  • Struggling with organizing distance education. New provost looking to tackle issues of distance ed in the coming months.
  • Online instructors want a student evaluation form in an online format.
  • Need for course information to feed into military CTAM system
  • Campus not prepared yet to support student issues on Elive
  • New position to coordinate training for faculty and staff filled - waiting to see how that goes

UAF - IAC (Holly)

  • Six centers servicing a large area and experience connectivity issues. Getting student access to resources at other campuses an issue.
  • Training staff on new technologies

UAS - Sitka (Susie)

  • Student connectivity issues - controling academic traffic versus recreational traffic on the web
  • Students not prepared with the equipment for distance (elive) classes and campus having difficulty filling the needs everyone has with the resources on campus.
  • Educating and orienting online students
  • Need to boost enrollments
  • Limited instructional design resources

UAF - Kuskokwim - (Heidi)

  • Bandwidth issues
  • Finding places for students to take Elive courses
  • Networking security
  • Faculty support and motivation
  • Need info from all over the UA system before classes start
  • Need for more IT staffing and instructional design

  • What are the standards for student contact for distance courses?
