Greetings!
In April 2007, the Interior-Aleutians Campus (IAC), College of Rural and Community Development at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) was awarded a Tribal Technical Assistant Program grant by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration to bring the Alaska Tribal Technical Assistance Center (Alaska TTAC) home to Alaska.
The Alaska TTAC will be housed at the Interior-Aleutians Campus of UAF and will continue to provide information while expanding the opportunities for access to education and technical assistance to further meet the needs of Alaska's Tribal Governments.
UAF and IAC have extensive experience in providing distance education in Alaska and plan to build on that experience to expand and provide training and workshops at the village level, through audio, video, internet based, and even paper based independent study. The new Alaska TTAC will also provide linkages to the materials and technical assistance available through the Alaska University Transportation Center (AUTC) and the federal Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) located in Fairbanks.
As one of the most significant benefits of bringing the program home to Alaska, we are looking forward to increased involvement and collaboration with Alaska's Tribal Governments, with the overall goal of providing a greater opportunity for tribal input as well as increased responsiveness to the needs of Alaska's tribal communities.
Advisory Board
A priority of the Alaska TTAC is to expand the advisory board to include a fair representation of Tribes from Alaska's twelve regions. Currently the Center is soliciting nominations from Tribal Council members willing to serve on the Advisory Board. If a Tribe would like to nominate their current Tribal Transportation Director, we ask that a letter come from the Tribe endorsing the nomination.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and educational institution and is a part of the University of Alaska system.
