About

Imagine all Fairbanks schools coming together to form a magnet district – the majority of the system from preschool through university. Let’s capitalize on our assets to go from good to great, using the small size and relative isolation of our community to our best advantage.

Imagine that we work as a whole community to make these kinds of changes:

  • Reducing our high school drop-out rate significantly – with at least 90 percent of our students graduating from high school
  • Increasing standardized test scores and university completion rate
  • Developing greater readiness for transitions to work and continuing education, building seamless bridges between high school, technical education and the university.
  • Offering voluntary pre-Kindergarten programs, and providing better integration of preschool, K-12, and after-school programs
  • Developing a vision of active learning that goes hand-in-hand with healthy lifestyles
  • Creating economic opportunities to ensure graduates can find work in their fields

Action

Community action: A community vision for learning calls for engaging everyone – education and health professionals, public leaders, business people, students, parents, and retirees. At this time, the process is one of building momentum, creating a sense of buy-in, inviting community partners to participate in this journey.
